Floor, a Florida stoner metal band that shares frontman Steve Brooks with Torche, have just begun streaming Oblation, their first new album in twelve years. Above, listen to it on Spotify.

Disbanding after the release of 2002's self-titled album, Floor briefly reunited in 2010 to play some reunion shows, at which point bassist Anthony Vialon noticed "that our fan base had grown exponentially and doing a new record, kind of picking up where we'd left off, was something we agreed we should focus on." Thankfully him, Brooks and drummer Henry Wilson have followed up on that promise, teaming up with Converge guitarist (and wildly prolific producer) Kurt Ballou to record Oblation last year.

Spanning fourteen tracks and close to 50 minutes, Oblation is chock full of stoner rock jams of a very consistent character, with the slightly faster tempos of "The Key" and "Raised to be a Star" providing the only respite from otherwise sludgy, psychedelic-tinged rockers. All but one of the album's tracks are under 5 minutes long, which is a bit of a rarity in a genre known for its multi-part epics, but is in keeping with Brooks' songwriting style in Torche. What we're left with is an album of deliciously crunchy riffs and a relatively uniform sound, both of which provide a through-line between the short songs.

Oblation's longest track is "Sign Of Aeth," which is almost double the length of the album's second longest song, and crams in several very enjoyable movements that vary in tempo, mood and of course, riffage. In an album full of songs that sound like they're cracking the sky, it might reach the greatest heights.

Preorder Oblation ahead of its April 29th release date from Seasons of Mist, and listen to three individual tracks from the album right here on Zumic.
