Late last year, Gene Ween (AKA Aaron Freeman) released Gener's Gone, an EP of previously-unreleased demos, and now he's back with a new project. Recording with a full band under an all-caps version of Freeman's last name, the band will release their self-titled debut on July 22nd. Stream album cut "(For a While) I Couldn't Play My Guitar like a Man" above, courtesy of SoundCloud.

The song is a very good, mellow meanderer packed with two nimble guitar solos, but the method by which it was announced might be more noteworthy than the actual song itself. Before anything had been reported about FREEMAN's new album, Jack Black of all people took to Facebook to link us to the band's website and proclaim:

Though the introspective "(For a While) I Couldn't Play My Guitar like a Man" is more of a bummer than anything Tenacious D have ever touched, this new Jack Black / Gene Ween connection makes us wish that a joint Ween and Tenacious D tour would happen. But when you realize how much of a long-shot that is, you might just be bummed out enough that "(For a While) I Couldn't Play My Guitar like a Man" will resonate with you.

You can preorder FREEMAN from Partisan Records' webstore, and check out more Ween-related music, videos and news right here on Zumic.
