Spoon are back. They Want My Soul, their first album in four years, is out August 5, and to tide us over, they've released their own "unofficial" YouTube video of its first single, "Rent I Pay."

The song is the latest display of head-nodding greatness from the band, showing off frontman Britt Daniel's distinctly visceral singing and the band's expertly layered sound. While the video is simple in content, featuring just Daniel singing and playing guitar, it is beautiful visually with striking color and shadow effects. You can also check out the song sans video through Spotify.

A couple points of interest to keep in mind as the full album nears: it marks the first time Spoon have worked with outside producers in Joe Chiccarelli (Morrissey, The Shins) and Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Weezer, Sparklehorse). It also features new Spoon member Alex Fischel from Divine Fits, the indie-rock supergroup Daniel helped found in the interim since Spoon's 2010 album, Transference.
