You may not have heard of Owl John, the side project of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, featuring fellow bandman Andy Monaghan as well Frightened Rabbit live member Simon Liddell. But the noise around the band is building, and for good reason. Following up on their debut single from May, "Hate Music," Owl John have released another winner in "Red Hand."
More laid-back in beat than the fist-pumping "Hate Music," "Red Hand" retains what is developing as Owl John's signature scowl. Hutchison sings angrily, with lyrics dominated by suspicion. The song eludes easy understanding, however, with a turn that leads to a gentle ending.
So far we're hooked. We'll find out more about the band in the next month as we head towards the August 5th release of their self-titled debut album. For now, check out "Hate Music" as well as live dates for Owl John and Frightened Rabbit here at Zumic. You can get tickets from Owl John's Official Website.
