Phish took their 2014 tour to The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama last Friday night. A video of the late-night performance of their single "Down With Disease," from 1994's Hoist, has been uploaded onto their YouTube channel.
The performance opens with a short spree of eclectic noises before a series of percussive attacks brings us to the opening stanza of the lyrics. The band utilized the choruses and verses as a foundation before seamlessly segueing into an extended jam session.
The customary improvisations brought the entire performance's length to just under twenty minutes. Jon Fishman and Mike Gordon's tightly entwined rhythm section kept the groove tight, while Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell introduced melodies that swirled among one another throughout the track. Beach balls are seen traveling through the air as the band's jam session rages on into the video's final seconds.
You can download entire Phish performances at their Live Phish Website. Phish's latest album, Fuego, is streaming for free here on Zumic. Fuego is also available on iTunes and Amazon, as well as their Phish Dry Goods website.
