While the Major Key album continues to do well on the charts, DJ Khaled has released the music video for his third single "Nas Album Done."
Set in Jamaica and clocking in at just under nine minutes, the video serves more as a short film to build up anticipation for Nas' upcoming studio album.
Featuring dancehall legend Louie Rankin (AKA Ox), the treatment sticks to the roots of a DJ Khaled video: larger than life shots, partying, women, and lots of brand placement. However, the heart of the track lies within the Nas lyrics. The Illmatic M.C. demonstrates that he hasn't lost a step with two incredibly efficient verses referencing his upcoming album and his status as a hip-hop legend.
The song samples "Fu-Gee-La" by The Fugees. Although the lengths to which Khaled went to clear the sample remain unknown, Nas spoke about getting the OK from the legendary trio in an interview with Complex:
I texted Ms. Lauryn Hill to ask her if she was cool, she said she was cool. She signed off on it, she gave me the approval. I don't have the rest of the Fugees' phone numbers, so I hit Salaam Remi who worked with the Fugees and he signed off on it. I just wanted to get her blessing and we were good.
The release date for Nas' eleventh studio album has yet to be given a release date, although Nas confirms in the same interview that it is finished.
DJ Khaled's Major Key is available for download on Amazon. It is also available for streaming through most services.
