On Friday, soulful rock group Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats will officially release a self-titled album, their first on Stax Records. The Denver, Colorado-based Rateliff has a few other albums he's released previously, going back to 2007.

The eleven-track album boasts songs that are steeped in soul, R&B, and gospel. Singer Nathaniel Rateliff is a one-of-a-kind singer, able to channel the likes of '60s-era Elvis Presley and Otis Redding. His vocals drip passion, and The Night Sweats provide a strong platform for his singing to let loose.

Aggressive drums, percussion, hand-claps, and foot-stomps push the uptempo songs forward with an infectious energy. It's fitting for this to be on Stax records, because the guitar, bass, and horns sound like they could have been recorded in Memphis many decades ago. There's a vintage sound, but a freshness on this album that comes mostly from Rateliff's very personal vocal performances.

Each song has a different character, pulling from various styles of music. Recommended tracks include "S.O.B.," "I Never Need Get Old," "Trying So Hard Not To Know," and "Look It Here."

You can pick up the album on Amazon. You can stream the full album above, courtesy of Spotify.
