Where were you on this day 24 years ago? I'm sure most of you were either in middle school, kindergarden, or not even born. Don't feel bad, I was only one year old myself. Well two decades and four years ago today, East Orange-based rap group Naughty By Nature released their self-titled major label debut album.
Naughty By Nature had an aggressive yet radio friendly sound that connected with the streets as well as middle America. The album featured the lead single and smash crossover hit "O.P.P.," and other singles such as "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" and "Uptown Anthem." "O.P.P." became the group's most popular song reaching #6 on Billboard's Hot 100.
Naughty By Nature went on to release five more albums, founded their own record company Illtown Records, and even experienced a breakup in 2002. Today, all members are present and all issues are resolved. However, earlier this year Treach stated in an interview with DDTV that another Naughty By Nature album is unlikely.
