"Blues and beers for breakfast, while wearing boots and beards at work."
Mrs. Henry is a band that plays raucous rock and roll. Their debut EP, Not The Kinda Girl, is a strong album that should get some serious attention around their hometown of San Diego and Southern California. Gritty guitar playing and rollicking piano are backed by a tight rhythm section that isn't afraid to experiment. This is bar room blues with a fresh, fun spin to it. You can hear major traces of Frank Zappa and Bruce Springsteen's early records, as well as their listed influences of Led Zeppelin and The Band.
Not The Kinda Girl sounds like it was taken straight out of the '70s, with a modern production aesthetic and mastery of blues licks. All four members of the band prove themselves to be rock solid, and guest musicians Rob Crowell of Deer Tick and a horn section fill things out beautifully. Lead singer and guitar player Dan Cervantes is also the songwriter of the band and was heavily involved in the mixing of the record. It's very polished for a debut, with lots of different sonic textures through the 4 songs that classic rock lovers will surely appreciate.
This is a band with a bright future. They just announced that they're heading out on a tour during April of 2014. Check Mrs. Henry's Facebook page for more info.
