Obits are a Brooklyn band on Subpop records. They rock hard. Watch the YouTube video above for proof.

Rick Froberg is in fine form here, laying down awesome vocals. The band plays great behind him, with raw power and precise riffing. The energy is especially good when you consider that they're playing in a radio studio without any crowd. Over 15 minutes, the band plows through 4 songs, starting with the instrumental "Besetchet" which quickly goes into "This Girl's Opinion." Host Cheryl Waters explains how fond she is of the band, which has been together for 3 albums going back to March of 2009. There's some interesting discussion about the band's style, which utilizes two lead guitar players and is a little spacier than your average punk band. There isn't too much other talking, just killer guitars, bass, and drums. "Malpractice" is a dynamic tune that gets funky, and "Spun Out" finishes the set on a high surfy note.

Alexis Fleisig's drumming is mega heavy. Bass player Greg Simpson plays the Bill Wyman role to perfection, with a great sound and rock solid groove. Sohrab Habibion provides guitar alongside Froberg, and the two have great chemistry playing off each other without stepping on each others' toes. This is a band whose whole is greater than the sum of their parts.
