Katie & Allison Crutchfield (of Waxahatchee and Swearin') just released this outstanding cover of one of 2012's top songs, Grimes' "Oblivion". The sisters Crutchfield give the futuristic dance pop song a remarkable makeover, keeping the original's bounce and upbeat tempo while throwing their own brand of sloppy-in-the-best-way garage rock goodness on top. Fantastic cover. A+. I just wish I had found this gem when I was making our Spring/Summer mixtape earlier this week. D'oh.
The 100% rooftop dance party ready track comes courtesy of Rookie Mag and Katie had this to say to them about the cover:
I read that the lyrics are about assault and feeling unsafe on the street alone, and I thought that was a really great topic that I felt politically aligned with. I’ve written about this before, too, and so has Allison. It’s something a feminist punk band would write about, and the juxtaposition of that with electronic pop was really cool to me.
