On August 7th, Gregg Allman will be releasing a live LP / DVD titled Gregg Allman Live: Back to Macon, GA. The release was recorded at the Grand Opera House in Macon, Georgia on January 14th, 2014. One of the tracks on the LP will be a stunning version of "One Way Out." You can watch that performance above, which includes special guest Devon Allman (Gregg Allman's son).
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Gregg says why this concert is significant to him:
Macon has a very special place in my heart. To go back there and play this show was heavy, and to be on stage there with Devon, made it even heavier. The whole thing made me very proud.
For this performance, Gregg was joined onstage by guitarist Scott Sharrard, bassist Ron Johnson, drummer Steve Potts, Allman Brothers Band percussionist Marc Quiñones, and three horn players. Everybody gets their moment to shine on this number, from a rollicking keyboard solo to a fiery Gibson SG led solo from Devon. Perhaps the song's highlight is Steve Potts' impressive 3+ minute drum solo, which slides into a warm bass solo from Ron. Sharrard, Devon, and the horn players trade a few call-and-response licks between each other before Gregg closes out the song on a high note.
Other tracks on the release will include such Allman Brothers classics as "Statesboro Blues," "Midnight Rider," "Whipping Post," and "Melissa."
