Iggy Azalea and Angel Haze have teamed up to create a bomb new cover of Kanye and Jay-Z's "Otis." First performed in London in a venue in King's Cross, this freestyle, now on Soundcloud, is circulating at hyperspeed. After all of the conflicts between female rappers and a well-publicized feud raging between Angel Haze and Nicki Minaj, this track goes to show that there can be unity among female rappers.
According to NME, Azalea commented on the recording saying, "Angel's always going to have a friend in me ... I support her. She's a fucking star. She's the future." Hopefully the camaraderie will only continue. If this is what we get when female rappers get along, some bridges need to be built immediately.
Angel Haze's first studio album Dirty Gold is set to be out later this year. If it can live up to her 2012 mixtape Reservation, it is likely to be one of the best indie rap albums of the year.
