Originally from Australia, but now based in Brooklyn, folk duo Luluc are releasing their second full length album, Passerby. It's their first record on Sup Pop and was co-produced by Aaron Dessner of The National. Stream it above via Spotify.

The album is subtle, but manages to create a lush feel with its instrumentation. The acoustic guitars are intricately layered, and pianos and strings grace the background of many of the tracks. The vocals on each song are serene and relaxed, carried by the soft, gorgeous voice of lead singer Zoë Randell. The record is slow paced, but it never seems meandering, as there is enough variety in the production to keep the listener interested. Dessner helps create a rich sound, while still keeping the intimate integrity of the work.

The first track on the record, "Small Window," sets the tone immediately. It's a slow song, with a focus on acoustic guitar, delicate piano bits and strings. The lyrics are about appreciating everything around you in life, no matter where you go. "Winter is Passing" showcases the album's exquisiteness. The instrumentals are simple -- acoustic guitar with bits of cello throughout -- but it paints a beautiful picture of the end of winter.

The record's sparseness is reminiscent of the works of Nick Drake, while the vocal style calls to artists like First Aid Kit. The lyrics focus on nature, and on the little things in life that are so fascinating. The album as a whole takes that philosophy to heart: it is simple and personal, yet it creates an engrossing listen.

Passerby will be released on July 15th. You can pre-order it at the Sup Pop shop. For more information on Luluc, including news, music and tour dates, check out their website.
