The video for Mikal Cronin's "Peace of Mind" is proof that there's often beauty in the most boring, commonplace routines. Starring Helium/Wild Flag member Mary Timony as a maid at a decrepit motel, the video follows her around while she cleans and removes refuse from rooms trashed by the previous night's inhabitants. Apart from evoking pity for service industry workers, "Peace of Mind" also connects on an artistic level, with beautifully composed shots that echo the motel scenes in Wes Anderson's Bottle Rocket.
"Peace of Mind" is only one of many highlights from Cronin's sublime MCII, released in May. You can (and should) buy that from Merge Records.
