The Pixies played a live set at KCRW studios Thursday on the Morning Becomes Eclectic, where they performed tracks spanning their entire career, from 1988's Surfer Rosa to their upcoming release Indie Cindy. Even without Kim Deal on bass, the band holds to their classic live intensity. Frank Black's mighty shout is still as powerful as ever as it rings over the wall of distorted guitars. New bassist Paz Lenchantin (formerly of A Perfect Circle) carries Kim's legacy well.

The performance peaks early on with its opener "Gouge Away," the final track on Doolittle. But even though the new Indie Cindy tracks are weaker than the Pixies' earlier works, a few, like "What Goes Boom" and "Greens and Blues" have a catchy, enjoyable alt-rock sound.
