Lesley Stahl of CBS news's 60 Minutes recently took a trip to Russia to interview members of the band Pussy Riot. Pussy Riot, a punk rock group made up of women from Russia made headlines last year as it protested on the Altar of the Russian Orthodox Church, calling for the Virgin Mary to save them from Valdimir Putin, the current president of Russia. After this episode of public dissent, 3 of the members were sentenced to two years in a Russian Penal Colony. One of them was released on parole last year. There are also 2 other members in hiding, continuing to make music. The crude lyrics and violent sound belie the intelligent people behind this project. In the words of Yekaterina Samutsevich, a guitarist in pussy riot who was recently freed on parole, "Punk Rock is the language we choose."
