Neko Case performed her song "Ragtime," a single off of her 2013 album The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You, live on Conan this week. Arizona-based folk rockers Calexico formed the huge backing band, comprised of the standard rock fare of two guitarists, a bassist, and a drummer, with the addition of two trumpeters, a tambourine player and a cellist to fill out the sound. The final result is a twangy, swaying indie rock track, slowly building up into a booming full band chorus. "Ragtime" sounds like a modern take on nineties alternative, with an attention to loud / soft dynamics that would make bands like the Pixies proud.
