We've heard a lot of good music so far this year. One of the best rock albums of 2014 is certainly Real Estate's Atlas, officially released on March 4th. Not long after the album came out, Real Estate played the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas. Above, listen to 6 songs covering 24 minutes of their performance in a Live at SXSW 2014 Spotify Session release.

Beginning with the infectious "Had To Hear," the band is on point and sounding great. All 6 of these songs are from Atlas, and they all fit together very nicely. "Talking Backwards" is actually the most played Real Estate song on Spotify by a wide margin, with over 2 million plays at the time of this publication. This live version captures the beauty of the studio version, but sounds cleaner and has a little more urgency coming from the drums. Compared to the more straight forward two opening songs, "April's Song" and "Horizon" are like psychedelic curveballs in the middle of the set. This is followed by "Crime" which plays off a nearly identical melodic / harmonic motif to "Had To Hear" and recalls the surf-rock vibe. Things finish with "The Bend," which brings it all together with gorgeous guitar lines and a bouncy danceable beat.
