RiFF RAFF premiered his new variety talk show, appropriately titled "RiFF RAFF REALM," today on Complex. Combining his love for shoes, Vine videos, and crazy hair into a four minute montage of weird, RiFF RAFF hosted the show in the most casual way possible, drinking beer during takes and falling asleep in the middle of an interview. Through everything however, there is an essence of white-trash-wisdom pervading the nonsensical, almost surreal broadcast.
In discussing his unique shoes, referred to as "Sherbet Barry Bondsons," he proclaims: "The maroon texture alone, has been known to make presidents impeach themselves." He endorses them as "Ice cream eating shoes" before throwing them away and moving on. Talking to daredevil Vine-poster Brad Thunderberry, RiFF RAFF suggests that he must "simmer down on the sunny side," after his death defying lake blob jump. Perhaps wisdom isn't quite the right word for it, but RiFF RAFF's ability to passively turn a phrase helps to make the show an entertaining watch, even when we don't quite know what we're watching.
Visually, the candy-pastel color palette compliments the rapper's neo-eighties, and while it seems overwhelmingly puke-y at times, the sets seem like a loving throwback to the iconic colors of early MTV logos, like the one conveniently tattooed onto his neck. With new episodes promised every Thursday on Complex, it seems that RiFF RAFF's random style will be here to stay.
