With sweet and smokey vocal chops, Leon Bridges is an up-and-coming soul singer who has gotten comparisons to some of the great soul singers of all-time. His latest single, "River," is a spase show-stopper that fittingly closes out his 2015 album, Coming Home. Listen above.
This is old fashioned food for the soul with allusions to classic gospel. Over simple guitar strumming and shaky tambourine, Bridges voice shines next to a choir. The highlight for me is during the bridge section, when he trades lines with female vocalist Brittni Jessie. The sound fills the space beautifully.
"River" is also the soundtrack to a Beats By Dre commercial featuring Marcus Mariota that aired the night the quarterback was selected #2 overall by the Tennessee Titans in the NFL Draft.
