Last night, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to perform a couple songs from her latest album Give the People What They Want.

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings "Retreat" on Jimmy Fallon:

After undergoing treatment for bile duct cancer, Sharon Jones is back to performing and making great music. "Stranger To My Happiness" is a '50s style R&B groove that has Jones doing some amazing vocal work in this high energy performance. "Retreat" sounds a bit like Diana Ross and the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On," but make no mistake; this is a fresh and powerful tune that's no imitation of old school R&B. The Dap-Kings aren't a Motown cover band, they are a group unto themselves. Layers of instrumentation from the guitars and horns to drums and percussion to the backing vocals give the song a full and playful sound that take the R&B sound to the next level while staying true to its roots.

Many performers in Sharon Jones' position would have chosen to wear a wig on their bald head after the intense cancer radiation treatment, but Jones has chosen to keep it natural. Here at Zumic, we commend her for her courage.
