"Shut In" - Strand of Oaks [SoundCloud Audio]

Timothy Showalter, the Philadelphian singer/songwriter of Strand of Oaks, just dropped the second single off his upcoming studio album, Heal.

"Shut In" starts off as a solid folk-rock anthem that features Bruce Springsteen-esque vocals and ends with a lovely piano solo. The lyrics begin describing Showalter's frustration with trying to make a name for himself, but then switches to a more optimistic feel in the chorus: "It's not as bad as it seems and we try in our own way to get better."

Heal is very much an album that describes the motions of recovery. In a press release, Showalter described the album as follows:

The record is called Heal, but it’s not a soft, gentle healing, it’s like scream therapy, a command, because I ripped out my subconscious, looked through it, and saw the worst parts. And that’s how I got better.

Heal is out June 24 and is currently available for preorder on Amazon. You can also listen to Strand of Oaks' previous single, "Goshen '97," right here on Zumic.
