The Tedeschi Trucks Band threw some vintage funk music into their encore at the band's Red Rocks show on June 13th. They were joined by Doyle Bramhall II and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings to perform an exciting medley of Sly Stone's "Sing A Simple Song" and "I Want To Take You Higher." Watch their performance above.
This performance is proof of the old adage that "the more, the merrier." The musicians entertain the crowd with a funky version of "Sing A Simple Song" that is bolstered by Dap-Kings horns and Sharon Jones' energized stage presence.
Drummers Tyler Greenwell and J.J. Johnson bring a smooth transition into "I Want To Take You Higher" after an extended trumpet jam. The tempo is brought down momentarily with smooth guitar interplay between Derek Trucks and Binky Griptite before the rest of the band build the momentum back up. Finishing the song on an energized note, it was a high octane send-off for a windy night.
TTB are currently on their Wheels of Soul tour, where Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and Doyle Bramhall II are opening. For the latest music, news, and tour dates from Tedeschi Trucks Band, check out their Zumic artist page.
