With Sonic Highways and the HBO series of the same name, Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters have embarked on one of the most ambitious album projects in music history. The basic premise is that the band traveled to 8 cities in the United States to absorb the history and culture before recording a song inspired by each city. Frontman, guitar player, and songwriter Dave Grohl wrote the songs with lyrics taken directly from his conversations with some of the most successful and influential musicians in those cities, as well as inviting those local heroes into the studio to collaborate on the recordings.
