EDM producer Zedd is getting ready to re-release his debut album, Clarity, in just a few weeks. Leading the new deluxe edition is his new single, "Stay The Night," featuring Paramore's Hayley Williams. The song starts off with enchanting piano and a rolling marching drum beat, before exploding into a synth and drum machine club banger. Williams' vocals are powerful and dreamy throughout, bringing a rock edge to the otherwise dance styled track. "Stay The Night" is dynamic and beautiful, ending with the tinkling piano that it started with.
Zedd stopped by MTV for a brief interview about the song. With his diverse background in music, he feels that working with Hayley Williams was a perfect fit:
Although my music is electronic, it has a lot of influences from my past, which is all sorts of genres; I've been in a rock-metal band for a long time, and I still feel like, personally, I have a lot of influence from that. My classical influence, you can find spots here and there. I think we have a similar background, musically, and maybe that's why it fits so well ... I feel like a lot of other genres are in my music even though they're not in the spotlight.
Zedd, who says he has been a fan of Hayley Williams and Paramore for almost a decade, originally planned to have a male singer feature on "Stay The Night." However, he thought Williams could bring a different atmosphere to the song, telling MTV that "it's more sexy and interesting with her singing it." He continued:
What I love about Hayley — besides the fact that she's an incredible singer — is that she actually has a lot of emotion that she can carry. There are a lot of singers who sing a melody, and then there are lyrics behind it but they're not connected. Hayley is one of those singers that really connects the lyrics with the melody and can actually carry that emotion. She's one of my favorite singers and I think she did an incredible job.
He also described the upcoming music video for "Stay The Night," revealing that "the music video is about the same thing the song is about; it's about a breakup and about a couple spending their last night together although they both know it's not the right thing." MTV reports that the music video is expected to be released later this month.
"Stay The Night" is already available on iTunes, where it is rapidly climbing the Top Singles chart. The deluxe edition re-release of Clarity will be out on September 24th, but you can pre-order it on iTunes now. Hayley Williams also released a new album with her band earlier this year. Paramore is available on iTunes, and features songs such as their latest single, "Still Into You."
