Songstress Jhene Aiko, who has been riding the success of her recent feature on Drake's "From Time," proves her vocal abilities again on her new single "Stay Ready (What A Life)." Featuring Kendrick Lamar, the track starts as a smooth mid-tempo listen that breaks down into a slower groove towards it's end. The song is featured on her just released EP, Sail Out.
"I have waited lifetimes to find you, now that you're here I can remind you," she sings in the beginning with an angelic voice. Kendrick's verse compliments the content sung by Aiko perfectly, as he discusses the love of a relationship.
"Come to me, look at what you done to me, you put a gun to me, then you brought the sun to me," he raps, as she sings along to the rhymes. Once the the song's slower portion begins, Aiko's voice is processed to fit the sound providing great contrast.
