"Lariat"

Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks are releasing their new album Wig Out at Jagbags today, and last night they showed up to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to promote it. The four piece played album track "Lariat" (above), as well as Mirror Traffic cut "Stick Figures in Love" (below).

"Stick Figures in Love"

The Portland, Oregon-based band seemed impeccably rehearsed, particularly during the intricate outro on "Lariat," where Malkmus cemented his role as bandleader by conducting The Jicks with the neck of his guitar. Drummer Jake Morris kept things loose with his arms, making tricky drum patterns seem impossibly effortless. His Frasier shirt, as well as guitarist/keyboardist Mike Clark's outfit (a Portland Trailblazers hat and Red Fang shirt), combined to rep the Pacific Northwest quite auspiciously. An indie band with hometown pride? And here I was thinking that hating one's hometown was a prerequisite for forming an indie band.

Stream Wig Out at Jagbags right here on Zumic, and buy it from Matador Records, and check out the trippy video for "Cinnamon And Lesbians" while you're at it. For Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks' current tour dates, as well as more of their music and videos, visit their Zumic Artist Page.
