In addition to sharing their new album Give The People What They Want with the world, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings have released a new music video for the song "Stranger to My Happiness" on YouTube which you can watch above.
The video features a bald headed Sharon Jones, still recovering from treatments for bile duct cancer, leading The Dap-Kings through a soulful up-tempo jam as a wedding band. The baritone sax lays the foundation for the groove, as everyone locks in. There's also some far out spacey sounds that could be a theremin, a synthesizer keyboard, or possibly a processed guitar. Whatever it is, it sounds futuristic and it's appropriately funky. It's great to see video of the band together and Sharon Jones with a big smile on her face. The party setting is appropriate, as it's a bit of a comeback party and they all get to eat cake at the end of the video, although the story of the song is a bit sad as the bride never showed up to her wedding day. Like so much of life, you get the bitter with the sweet.
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings head out on tour soon. Check their official website for the latest tour dates and ticket info.
