Temples are a young British band who have already received votes of confidence from Johnny Marr and Noel Gallagher, and now their debut album is streaming on Spotify. Listen in above.

As singles like "Shelter Song," "Keep in the Dark" and "Mesmerise" foretold, Sun Structures is an album rooted in the psychedelic sounds of the '60s. Temples operate like a classic four piece -- drummer, bassist, guitarist/singer, and rhythm guitarist/keyboard player -- which is becoming more of a rarity in the digital age, and the band members even look the part for the wayward hippy jams they churn out. They've often been compared to Tame Impala, but Temples' tunes seem more pastoral and lush, and less jammy than their Australian peers. Whereas Tame Impala's heaviest moments can recall Zeppelin, the most aggressive-sounding portion of this Sun Structures (the fuzzed-out dirge of "A Question Isn't Answered") is more Plastic Ono Band than Physical Graffiti. Elsewhere, the levels of testosterone are tempered to a degree that makes The Zombies seem like Black Sabbath in comparison.

But enough with the name-dropping of actual '60s bands. When allowed to stand alone, Temples simply make trippy music that would never, ever contribute to a bad trip. Listening to Sun Structures seemingly conjures up just about every memory I have of sitting in / lying on / running around sunny fields, making Temples seem like a lock to win over dazed crowds at summer festivals. To me, the standouts are "The Golden Throne," a song whose chorus boasts an effortlessly sterling melody, and the of Montreal-ish "Mesmerise," which substitutes that band's eccentricities for no-frills arrangements and a wonderful Mellotron. Overall, Sun Structures is a consistent product, containing little variation but a wealth of replay value.
