Ever since the first year he was asked to curate the Bonnaroo Superjam, Amir "Questlove" Thompson has absolutely killed it with his selections. Thus far the Superjam has featured the likes John Paul Jones, Ben Harper, Herbie Hancock and members of bands like Parliament Funkadelic, The Time and Thompson's own band The Roots. Last year was no different as the performance featured the first appearance on an American stage by D'Angelo in 12 years. The variety and quality of the guest players over the years is certainly a testament to the respect and admiration other artists have for Thompson and the results speak for themselves.
It's pretty cool then, that Bonnaroo has announced that over the course of the next four weeks they will be releasing a documentary of the historic performance, detailing how it all came together via footage from backstage, practice and the performance itself, all in HD. Check out the first video in this fantastic series below and see the group's take on Prince's "My Summertime Thang". Get funky y'all.
