The A.V. Club launched its third season of its series "Pop Pilgrims" with a visit to Jack White's Third Man Records in Nashville, Tennessee. Third Man "Consigliere" Ben Swank takes The A.V. Club on a tour of the label/recording studio/venue/whatever else Jack White needs or wants.
Inside, we are taken through the performance space, which has its own recording booth behind it which can record and cut masters which will be used to make records. You can see the newly constructed patio outside, which will be used to serve food during shows.
The tour passes through the restrooms, which is an unusual stop for a tour. But in this case, the restroom's upside-down ceiling toilet is worth a look.
The warehouse holds the label's supply of records, being made ready for distribution. It also contains their special truck, which sells records out of the side like an ice cream truck. The truck also has a PA system in it so bands can perform shows wherever the truck is.
Check out the video to learn more about Third Man, including their make-your-own-record machine, as well as learning about fans receiving golden tickets in records to win tours from Jack White himself, Willy Wonka style.
