Arcade Fire's Will Butler is taking center stage for his first solo release, entitled Policy. Today, Merge Records shared "Take My Side," the first single from the album. Listen above.

The tune is jangly indie rock in top form. The guitar tone is unique but not overpowering, Will's vocals play to his strengths, and the lyrics are full of quirky Butler-isms. While the rest of the album might explore different sonic landscapes, this taste of American indie rock sounds pretty good.

You can watch Will's somewhat jarring teaser video for Policy at YouTube. A press release describes the album further:

Policy is American music—in the tradition of the Violent Femmes, The Breeders, The Modern Lovers, Bob Dylan, Smokey Robinson, The Magnetic Fields, Ghostface Killah. And John Lennon (I know, but it counts). Music where the holy fool runs afoul of the casual world.

Policy was recorded in one week in Jimi Hendrix’s old living room (upstairs at Electric Lady Studios). Jeremy Gara played drums; other musicians contributed woodwinds and backing vocals. Most everything else was played by Will.

Policy will be out March 10th of next year. Pre-orders are available now through Amazon (CD) and the Merge Records official store.
