Yesterday, Chicago rapper / singer Tink released her new Timbaland-produced, Lauryn Hill-referencing track, "Tell The Children." She has yet to release any information regarding an upcoming album or EP, but this powerful song will sustain us for now.
In light of the murder of Michael Brown and the grand jury's choice to not indict Brown's killer, Officer Darren Wilson, "Tell The Children" is right on time. Tink raps about the violent treatment of African-Americans by police officers. She raps, "A badge is a pass to do whatever / So now we living in fear of the people here to protect us / Yo, they lie and disrespect us, kill us, and then neglect us / The problem when nobody sees the view from our perspective." In the hook, she sings, "Tell the children to, watch out / Keep runnin', runnin', runnin', runnin'," with a melody based on Lauryn Hill's "Doo-Wop (That Thing)." Listen as the Chicago MC vents about the recent shootings of unarmed black men.
