Sturgill Simpson has shared a new song titled "The Dead Don't Die." Listen to it above on YouTube.

The track will appear in the soon-to-be-released film of the same name, directed by Jim Jarmusch and featuring a star-studded cast that includes Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, RZA, Iggy Pop, and Sturgill himself as a "Guitar Zombie." The musical connection and allusion to death in the title bring to mind Jarmusch's 1995 film Dead Man, which featured Johnny Depp and an intense score by Neil Young.

Musically, the country ballad expertly toes the line between soothing and haunting. The gentle instrumentation features mandolin, violin, pedal steel guitar, and piano, over steady drums and bass. It's a timeless song that puts Sturgill's heartfelt vocals front-and-center as he sings about a post mortem vision of the world.

The Dead Don't Die movie is set to be released Friday, June 14. Check local listings for showtimes.
