Indie-pop artist Lizzy Ashliegh (L.A.) just released an imaginative new music video for her feel-good jam "The One." Check it out above, via YouTube.
L.A. teamed up with Escape animation to create a unique narrative that reflects the positive message of the song. In the video, we see an animated Lizzy strolling through the jungle, using the power of love to conquer bad thoughts and evil deeds. The artistic style of this colorful music video was inspired by the animations and visual effects of Disney's Alice in Wonderland and Tarzan, as well as the Manga series Dragon Ball Z.
Lizzy's lyrics are simple and direct, touching on themes of unity and perseverance. "The words and melody spoke to me," Ashliegh explained, "Love and energy can guide you through the toughest times and even the darkest of shadows are enlightened."
The producer, Malcolm Fong, is a classically trained musician who helped bring “The One” to life. Speaking with L.A. about the creative process, she told me, "Malcolm is a close friend and said he would love to collab and so we sat for hours brainstorming sounds together, seeing what instruments fit." Fong utilized many different textures and musicians to engender a jazzier and more symphonic approach to house music. Among the instruments featured on the song are Electric Guitar, Flute, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, and Cello.
Full disclosure: I was one of the musicians on the recording session, playing cello.
Lizzy Ashliegh's upcoming album, LA Times is expected to drop in February 2016. iTunes Pre-sale info is available through Lizzy's Facebook page. "The One" audio single can also be heard on SoundCloud.
