At 25 years of age, Sam Smith is already one of the world's biggest music figures. In 2014, the English singer-songwriter released his debut album In the Lonely Hour, which propelled Smith into stardom. Last week, he released his second studio album The Thrill Of It All through Capitol Records. The special-edition LP features 14 songs covering 49 minutes.
The album finds Smith taking a more reflective approach with his music. His soulful vocals are supported by gentle piano and orchestral accompaniment on "Too Good At Goodbyes" and the title track. "HIM" evolves from a relaxed ballad to a rising anthem, while "Baby, You Make Me Crazy" is fueled by a funky beat and colored by horns and backing vocals.
In an interview with Billboard, Smith shared a goal he wanted to achieve on the album:
I went through, like, this vortex, came out, I feel like I've rebuilt myself as a stronger thing and I'm just gonna go into the vortex again... I wasn't trying to make a big pop record when I made this album. I was actually just trying to make something personal and like a diary.
Songs we recommend are "Too Good At Goodbyes," "One Last Song," "Baby, You Make Me Crazy," and "The Thrill Of It All."
