Bob Dylan World Map Slate Magazine

On May 24th, Slate Magazine commemorated Bob Dylan’s 72nd birthday as well as the 50th anniversary of the release of his The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan with an interactive map marking every place ever referenced in a Bob Dylan song on album, including the official Greatest Hits and Bootleg series.

The references to place in song by the ever-touring Dylan becomes more clear and a bit overwhelming, actually, with the help of this interactive map. Many pins, every continent! The interactive content of the map is great too: First, click on a pin to see the Bob Dylan song reference. Not only will you be able to read the specific lines within the song that reference that place, you will get the song name and album information along with a link to see full lyrics and to listen to it on Spotify.

Living in Brooklyn, I clicked on all three of the Brooklyn references. Here is my favorite:

"The sun turned cold over President Street and the town of Brooklyn mourned"
Song: “Joey”
Album: Desire (1976)

Ooh, and another great one:

“Drinking white rum in a Portugal bar”
Song: "Sara"
Album: Desire (1976)
