Today, David Bowie premiered the wildly experimental "'Tis A Pity She Was A Whore" on BBC Radio 1. You can listen to the track in the Spotify player above.

In a press release, Bowie described the track as, "If Vorticists wrote rock music, it might have sounded like this.” His description is right on -- the song is angular and inaccessible, but there's underlying artistic brilliance. The off-time alarm sounds are jarring, but Bowie's genius is audible somewhere underneath the surface. The press release goes on to describe his inspiration for the song's title:

The song acknowledges the shocking rawness of the First World War and the title is a play on ‘Tis Pity She's A Whore’ a John Ford Restoration play first performed in 1629 at the Cockpit Theatre in London. The demo track was recorded, played, and written by David Bowie in his home studio.

"'Tis A Pity" is the B-side of a limited edition 10" single of "Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)," which will be out via Parlophone on November 17th (November 25th in the States), which you can pre-order on Amazon. Be sure to pre-order Bowie's upcoming three-disc compilation record, Nothing Has Changed, via Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3) or iTunes as well.
