Bloodshot Records, an independent record label from Chicago, Illinois, released a new single off their upcoming compilation album, While No One Was Looking: 20 Years of Bloodshot Records, due to release November 18th, 2014. The song is Ryan Adams' "To Be Young (Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High)" from 2000's Heartbreaker, covered by Blitzen Trapper. Have a listen above.
Blitzen Trapper's rendition is solid, and they did a good job of keeping Adams' classic rock and roll sound from the original version. To add a bit of their own flavor, however, Blitzen Trapper folk it up by adding harmonica, pedal steel guitar, and southern blues elements to make an eclectic and fun cover.
This new single, along with the entire album, was created to celebrate and pay tribute to the artists the label recorded and promoted over 20 years of being in the business. Aside from Adams, other artists who recorded with Bloodshot will have their songs featured on the album, such as Cory Branan, Old 97s, and many others. The songs are all covered by artists that are not affiliated with label. Some of the artists who contributed are Frank Turner, Andrew Bird, Hiss Golden Messenger, Superchunk, and more.
While No One Was Looking: 20 Years of Bloodshot Records is available for pre-order on limited edition double CD w/ 12-page booklet, limited edition gatefold triple LP, or digital download via Bloodshot Records' website.
