Trampled By Turtles Live at Bumbershoot 9.2.2013 [KEXP YouTube Video]

Minnesota group Trampled By Turtles have made a name for themselves by playing traditional bluegrass while embracing country and popular rock music as well. At Seattle's Bumbershoot festival during Labor Day weekend earlier this year, they performed a set of blisteringly fast music that was recorded for video by local radio heroes KEXP. You can watch that above.

Considering that most music festivals take place outdoors, it's a little unusual that this performance is filmed inside but singer and guitar player Dave Simonett makes light of the situation, saying "A beautiful day to be locked inside a dark room" after the first song.

After a slow first song, the pace picks up and each of the members shows off their skills on their respective instruments. Guitar, banjo, bass, fiddle, and mandolin all blend into a single sound. Mostly somber, but there's also some spazmatic bluegrass which is lots of fun.
