Lily Allen has released the music video for "Trigger Bang," the first single from her upcoming album, No Shame.
British rapper Giggs opens the song with a smokey, smoothe, and lyrically tight verse before Allen's straightforward entrance, "And it fuels my addictions / Hanging out in this whirlwind / If you cool my ambitions / I'm gonna cut you out." The themes of drugs, wasted youth, celebrity, addiction, and the lifestyle that accompany them are prevalent throughout the entire song.
The song comes from a more mature Allen, yet maintains her youthful voice. Allen's reputation as an enfant terrible and scenester in her younger years is reflected in the lyrics, "When I was young I was blameless / Playing with rude boys and trainers / I had a foot in the rave 'cause I was attracted to danger / I never got home for Neighbors." She juxtaposes that image against the rest of the song's message of moving on from that life. The chorus does that in particular, with the verse, "That's why I can't hang with the cool gang / Everyone's a trigger bang, bang, bang, bang."
The cinematic video follows several characters, all of whom are dealing with the life that the lyrics touch upon. It begins with a character pocketing some cash and drugs before meeting up with his friends. This is followed by a scene where a group of kids are drinking, smoking, and driving around. In a separate scene, a group of young people centered around a woman are partying in an apartment with an abundance of booze and a pile of white powder on the table. Toward the end of the video, Lily Allen appears with a carefree vibe and ends the evening having a casual cup of tea in a cafe with an old friend.
