Just as promised, Lady Gaga is dropping a new single every Monday until the November 11th release of her album ARTPOP. Whereas last week's "Do What U Want" was an R. Kelly-aided retro stomper, "Venus" is a thoroughly modern banger that reunites Gaga with the original definition of the word "gaga."
Laughing maniacally in the face of the conventionally sexy version of Gaga who showed up on ARTPOP's previous singles, "Venus" dredges up the pop star's roots as a theatrical provocateur. She equates herself to both the Greek and Roman versions of the goddess of love, flips the classic "take me to your leader" line, and lists our solar system's planets. Oh yeah, and the cover art features a scorpion crawling on her metallic paint-covered face. Now there's a poker face I can't read.
Check out our four favorite lines from "Venus" below, and preorder ARTPOP on iTunes.
"Aphrodite lady, seashell bikini, garden panty"
"Let’s blast off to a new dimension, in your bedroom"
"Have an oyster, baby, it’s Aphrod-isy"
"Uranus, you know my ass is famous!"
