Eric Krasno is a founding member of Soulive and Lettuce, as well as an accomplished songwriter, producer, and session guitarist. Yesterday, he premiered a brand new music video for "Waiting On Your Love." Watch above on YouTube.
"Waiting On Your Love" marks a new chapter for Krasno, as it's the first single he's released as a lead vocalist. It's also a slight change of direction stylistically, moving away from funky jazz and toward more of a hard blues rock vibe. He spoke with Billboard about his influences:
Growing up, I listened to Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and the Grateful Dead, along with a lot of hip-hop... When I linked up with Soulive, we played instrumental music, and that's the path I’ve mostly been on ever since. This record loops back to those initial bands and songs I loved, but with the added experience and influence of the past 20 years.
He also talked about the creative process and what it was like to make his debut as a lead singer even though he's an established musician:
We didn't realize we were actually making the record, so there was no pressure, and that let us experiment in really cool ways... There's a lot of rawness to the recordings, and that really bled into the performances and my vocal delivery...
It's something I didn’t know was there... I would have been totally content just being a guitar player and writing songs for other people, but this inspiration just happened, and I'm really glad it did, because it's changed things. I didn't know I had this in me.
The video was shot at a "rundown factory building in New Orleans" and features psychedelic production. It's dark and features a kaleidoscopic effect, matching the music nicely.
The song comes from Krasno's upcoming solo album, Blood From a Stone, which is set to be released on July 8, 2016. His last solo album was Reminisce, which was released in 2010 and featured some singing from Nigel Hall.
