Last month, Dev Hynes' Blood Orange project released the great Cupid Deluxe. Today, Hynes has shared "West Drive" (Profit Vocal Dub 2) with the world, calling it "1 of roughly a million cuts that didn't make it onto the album."
A slow-burning, funky outtake, "West Drive" gradually builds until roughly the two minute mark, at which point Hynes' guitar and Samantha Urbani's angelic voice take the reigns. Urbani, who was prominently featured on many of Cupid Deluxe's tracks (and is now dating Hynes), is in prime form here, seamlessly transitioning between singing lead vocals and backing Hynes up with sugary harmonies. Together, the pair are undoubtedly one of 2013's best power couples, and "West Drive" only serves to solidify that.
