It's that time of year again where Christmas / Holiday songs are blasting through speakers in department stores on regular rotation. "White Christmas" is one you'll hear a lot, and this year there's a funky new version by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings that has just gotten a music video treatment. Check it out above.
The band deliver an old-school soul flavor to the Irving Berlin Christmas classic. Sharon's vocals shine as horns add a bright texture complimented with an upbeat groove. Background vocals from The Dapettes help to fill out the cheerful song, which we wish was longer than two minutes.
Bing Crosby helped to popularize the 1942 song, which was the best-selling single of all time before there was a pop / rock singles chart. Crosby also starred in a 1954 film of the same name, with music by Berlin.
This version comes from Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings' holiday themed album, It's A Holiday Soul Party. Pick it up on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3). It's also available on Spotify.
