Will.i.am‘s fourth studio album #willpower drops on April 23 (hashtag willpower!), and the rapper-producer has posted the album in its entirety as song streams on his YouTube channel, which is great news for people that want to see how Will creates song with insipid lyrics and boring production, despite a laundry list of huge artists collaborating with him. The power of all the artists, such as Britney Spears, actually adds to the frustration of listening to this album.
Aside from the singles that were released featuring Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Justin Bieber, the album does have some nice production flourishes, such as the competent use of strings. High points can be found on songs "Far away from Home", featuring soaring vocals provided by Nicole Scherzinger, and "Bang Bang", with it's original ragtime beat that creates some interesting musical ideas, and Britney Spears helping out with vocals. Meanwhile, the Juicy J collab “Freshy” apes Kanye West and Jay-Z‘s “Paris” that the rap duo should probably be suing him, even though it is one of the best songs on the album.
Give the Album a listen to yourself and decide how you feel about #willpower. The full stream can be found here, on his Youtube channel. Personally, this quote from Sam Lansky of Idolator.com sums up how I feel about Will.i.am;
"Will.i.am: Still like your creepy old uncle trying (and failing) to sound hip as he talks over otherwise-great songs, yet still demolishing radio with unprecedented ease."
