Yo Gotti distinguishes himself from the other southern trap rappers with his upcoming album I Am. The 13-track album featuring T.I., Ne-Yo, Meek Mill, Jeezy, Wale, Rich Homie Quan, and J. Cole is scheduled to release on November 19. For fans who couldn't wait, the Memphis rapper has made the album available for stream on SoundCloud.
Skimming through Gotti's previous catalog, one may classify him as the typical trap rapper, but giving a full listen to I Am will quickly put those generic titles away. Insight of the drug game's good and bad days, mistakes, self reflection, and trust are just some of the issues Gotti touches on. The Southern rapper also steps out of his region on the beat production, as the album features diverse sounds from other cities.
The Bay Area influenced track, "Act Right," features Jeezy and YG rapping over production that would be perfect for an Oakland house party. Philly rapper Meek Mill joins Gotti on "F-U," where both artists shed light on the people and things in life that don't deserve attention. "I Know," featuring new sensation Rich Homie Quan, samples Luniz's classic "I Got 5 on It" in a dope way that is sure to sit well with people who recognize the beat.
I Am serves as one of the better rap albums delivered this year. Gotti's personality and voice are distinct, and this album solidifies him as one of the best from the South currently. Listen above, and pre-order the album now on iTunes.
