Coheed fans rejoice! The band has shared a music video for the first single from their upcoming 8th studio album, titled The Color Before the Sun. Watch the clip for "You Got Spirit, Kid" above, via the band's YouTube.
The DJay Brawner-directed video is a comedic take of Fast Times at Ridgemont High meets Back to School. There's bare butts, weed brownies, vomit, and a pep rally. Bullies never win, and the band helps a friend to exact revenge on them with some clever pranks. Make sure to stay tuned to the end to find out what the characters are doing with their lives.
Though not as progressively heavy as their early work, "You Got Spirit, Kid" is nonetheless an energized tune with distorted guitar riffs and Claudio Sanchez's familiar high pitched vocals. Balancing a fine line between a pop and hard rock sound, the edgy lyrics are suitable for angst ridden fans to shout, "Nobody gives a fuck," too.
The band told Rolling Stone that this will be their first album that isn't part of "The Amory Wars," a sci-fi story that has been an ongoing theme in all their previous albums. Sanchez shared more in a statement:
I kind of want people to know that Coheed can write that sort of record... I've always said in the past that there's never been a limitation on the band. It makes no sense to me to draw a line in the sand and never cross it.
Additionally, the band shared a "Behind the Track" YouTube video where they discuss the song, including scenes of the band recording "You Got Spirit, Kid."
The Color Before the Sun will be out October 9th. Pick up "You Got Spirit, Kid" on Amazon.
