Last night, Conor Oberst played "Zigzagging Toward the Light" from his recent solo album, Upside Down Mountain, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Oberst was backed by folk rock band Dawes, though they don't appear on the album. The track is a bluesy pop jam with a slight country twang. Oberst sings in his shaky voice, "Oh how the circumstances change." The mostly calm track gets raucous as Dawes guitarist Taylor Goldsmith plays a weeping solo.

Oberst also gave a short interview for an online segment for The Tonight Show. He shared his first concert experience of watching his father's wedding band. At the age of six, he remembers being invited on stage to play Ritchie Valens' "Donna," which was his first performance ever. Watch below.
